The Rwanda-backed M23 rebel group is consolidating its control over the city of Goma in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. The militants plan to administer Goma, and also capture more territory. The group is reportedly targeting the city of Bukavu next. The rebels have also threatened to oust the DRC's president, Felix Tshisekedi. But Tshisekedi remains defiant. He has called for a massive troop mobilisation, to fight M23. Meanwhile, regional powers like South Africa are trying to get Rwandan president Paul Kagame to call off the M23 assault. Kagame took offense to a post by South African president Cyril Ramaphosa. He said that Rwanda will "deal with" South Africa if they prefer a confrontation.
